Activities of Stop Sida
Workshop
In Stop SIDA association, workshops are supposed to take place after the TCRS has approved the proposal from the coordinator. During workshops TCRS gives lunches to participants. The workshops help participants to improve their skills in the domain of HIV/AIDS. After each workshop, the coordinator in refugee camps has to write a report to the TCRS Project Coordinator.
Concerts
Concerts are prepared by youths who organise various groups to entertain the community. To facilitate these activities, Stop SIDA has bought guitars and a piano to enable musicians to improve their production. Also, during concerts, traditional dances, poems, drummers, modern dances are performed. The message to deliver concerns how to fight HIV/AIDS. To watch the concerts is free of charge.
Community theatre
This activity is performed by members of the association. It aims to change the behaviours that contribute to the spread of HIV. For example members of Stop SIDA can decide to meet people after Sunday mass celebration or go and perform at the market place. By entertaining people, they give message on how to change behaviour and avoid HIV contamination. Through the community theatre, the message on how to change behaviour is given by entertaining people.
Route march
The route march is organised to mobilise people. During route march, Stop SIDA members pass in various roads and streets to alert people about the danger of HIV/AIDS. They say slogans and sing songs to tell people that the community is under the danger of HIV/AIDS. To succeed in this activity, Stop SIDA uses megaphones to let the message reach a great number of people.
Sport league
Sometimes, Stop SIDA organises sport league to entertain the community. Through the sport league people know what Stop SIDA is because at the end of the league, the Stop SIDA coordinator addresses to the spectators and gives pieces of advice on how to avoid HIV contamination. Prices given at the end of the league are provided by TCRS and help to advertise Stop SIDA association in the community.
Inter-camp visits
To perform well the activities of the association, the coordinator arranges inter-camp visits. These voyages enable each camp to evaluate how effective the fight against HIV/AIDS is done on the respective camp level. The inter-camp visits are also financed by TCRS.
Testimonies
Occasionally, Stop SIDA organises opportunities for people already infected by the virus to say it openly to the public. This activity is useful because it decreases the risk of discriminating people living with the virus. Also people who could be in sexual contact with the infected person know that he/she is already infected and will never attempt to propose him/her to have sex.
